That title seemed fitting as I read across the lines in one of my anthologies of poetry the other day. I came across a word as well: variegation on line two of [American Journal]. I honestly never read this word before, it hit me in the face from 1978; the year before my birth—before Mount Saint Helens erupted. Here, smash the present into the past.
